Senior Associate, Community Engagement (Student Reporting Labs)
The Student Reporting Labs (SRL) Community Engagement Specialist is part of national youth journalism program that connects classrooms and afterschool programs to local PBS stations and the PBS NewsHour. The Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for managing and growing SRL's network of teachers, students and partners through its social media platforms, and nurturing national and local partnerships. The Community Engagement Specialist will set ambitious goals and develop campaigns to reach audience growth and engagement objectives. This position works closely with the SRL director and digital associate producer to create targeted content to engage and grow SRL's connected communities. This position will also build community through local and digital events at schools and stations across the country.
**This position is for 24 months and is grant funded. Continuing employment is subject to continuation and availability of grant funds.**
* Organize social media planning, including an audit of existing communications and write social media plan with specific goals and objectives.
* Create social media campaigns for content features that increase the participation of stations, schools, students and partners.
* Increase local PBS station engagement with youth content.
* Deepen engagement on platforms that connect with teenage audiences, educators and youth media practitioners.
* Grow SRL Twitter followers and produce engagement opportunities during major events and breaking news with Twitter moments, chats, youth user-generated content.
* Identify and connect with social media influencers to raise program visibility and impact.
* Utilize Facebook's nonprofit and community engagement programs to deepen engagement.
* Analyze content goals and adapt strategy to achieve agreed upon audience and engagement growth.
* Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.
* Proven track record of building and maintaining highly engaged communities online and through special events.
* Experience strategizing, building and executing campaigns around mission-driven content and communities.
* Familiarity with Hootsuite, TweetDeck and other social planning platforms.
* Exemplary writing and copyediting skills.
* Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation and time management skills with careful attention to detail.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment.
* Demonstrated ability to successfully perform in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
* Enthusiasm for journalism, education and public broadcasting media.
* College degree in communication, marketing, or related field.
* Minimum 3 years professional experience managing social media platforms for a nonprofit or news organization.
* Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
